Ferrari Can’t Build V8s Fast Enough
Ferrari’s turbocharged V8 models are driving never before seen sales figures and demand, the automaker revealed to Australia’s CarAdvice.
The Italian manufacturer recently introduced the GTC4Lusso T, a turbocharged V8 version of the V12 GTC4Lusso. The 2+2 hatchback is the first front-engine V8 Ferrari four-seater and follows in the footsteps of the Califronia T and 488 GTB – both of which are powered by Ferrari’s new 3.9-liter turbocharged eight-cylinder.
Herbert Appleroth, CEO of Ferrari Australasia, said some more expressed doubt over the new line of turbo V8 powered Ferraris and how they would be received by those most loyal to the brand. However it’s now become clear they are not only driving unprecedented sales numbers, but have done so without upsetting Ferrari purists.
“There were rumblings that maybe the traditionalists wouldn’t like the new turbo engines, but that’s certainly not the case if you look at the 488 and California T – we’ve never had more success, more demand for our cars,” Appleroth said.
“The demand is unprecedented, because it’s the perfect technology for the everyday user in these times. High torque, low rpm – that still feels naturally aspirated, which is just what you need for a blend of city and urban driving.”
Buyers of the GTC4Lusso T will likely be younger, inner-city folk, Ferrari believes. The automaker is also looking to steal some buyers away from “traditional British brands,” with the new 2+2, such as Aston Martin. The passenger and cargo room might also tempt those shopping for something along the lines of a Porsche Panamera, Appleroth says, giving it the type of wide-reaching appeal not usually offered by a Ferrari.
